Florida greyhounds need your help!
Over the next few months, Florida lawmakers will vote on changing the state's gambling laws. Some of these changes will affect greyhound racing. ARFF needs your help to fight for two important greyhound protection measures.
First, we are asking lawmakers to pass greyhound decoupling. This humane proposal will remove the requirement that dog tracks conduct live racing in order to also offer slots or poker. Decoupling will significantly reduce dog racing in the state, causing fewer dogs to suffer injuries and endure lives of confinement.
In addition to decoupling, we are calling on lawmakers to require that greyhound injuries be reported to the public. Florida is one of only two states, along with Alabama, that does not report this information.
You Can Help
Contact the Florida Senate Gaming Committee and ask them to support greyhound decoupling and greyhound injury reporting. Submit your comments by using the form on the Committee's website (scroll to the bottom of the page): www.flsenate.gov/topics/gaming
Sample comments (it's best to use your own words):
"I urge you to support removing the requirement that dog tracks host live racing in order to offer other forms of gambling (decoupling). Also, please require injury reporting for greyhounds. These are common sense proposals that will save greyhound lives."
Thank you!
