Seventeen years ago, the Senate had a chance to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would protect the LGBT community from workplace discrimination. It failed. By one vote.
As early as the end of this week, ENDA will again come up for a Senate vote. I'm a cosponsor of this landmark bill and I believe that this time we have a fighting chance to pass these common sense protections once and for all.
Polls show the majority of Americans support ENDA's protections – in fact, many believe they're already law. This is our moment.
Let's show Congress we are paying attention – and heartless violations of basic human rights in the workplace must end. Sign our petition to pass ENDA now.
We've been fighting this fight for decades, and we've made so much progress. But workers can still be fired for their sexual orientation in 29 states and for their gender identity in 33. It's wrong – but we finally have a chance to put it right.
I voted for ENDA when I was in the House of Representatives and I won't stop fighting until these protections become law. We're so close – but we need your voice today.
Thanks for standing with us and with the LGBT community.
Sincerely,
Kirsten [Gillibrand]
