BENCHMARKING BENCHMARK

Owners whose buildings are larger than 50,000 SQFT are required to provide a Benchmarking Report for 2012. If you have not filed for 2012, the next deadline has been moved from November 1, 2013 to November 30, 2013. Submit your report before November 30, 2013 to avoid another $500 penalty.

Fines for non-compliance are $500 per quarter ($2,000 per year).

Benchmarking Reports outline a building's energy use. To determine when a building's benchmarking is required, read about Covered Buildingsand see the City's current Local Law 84 (LL84) Covered Buildings List here.

Reporting Criteria

Buildings that meet any of the following criteria (based exclusively upon the records of the NYC Dept. of Finance) must submit Benchmarking reports:

  • A tax lot that contains two or more buildings that, together, exceed 100,000 gross square feet; or
  • Two or more buildings held in a condominium form of ownership that, together, are larger than 100,000 gross square feet.

The Benchmarking Help Center is available as a call-back service at 212-442-7901.
