Dear Lucas,
With the election of Bill de Blasio as the next Mayor of the City of New York, it is important that the Latino community weigh in on issues of importance to us. It is important that the new Mayor hear not only from the usual political suspects but also from a wide range of players in the Latino community.
I am writing to encourage you or your organization to write to Mayor-elect de Blasio to press him on his stated commitment to diversity in city government and the full inclusion of Latinos at all levels of his Administration. I have written an open letter to him on this issue (click here to download it), which I hope will provide you with points that you would like to join me in making with him. You can reach him as follows:
The Honorable Bill de Blasio
Mayor-Elect of the City of New York
32 Court Street, Suite 902
Brooklyn, NY 11201
As you know, there are a whole host of long-neglected issues facing our community that need to be addressed by this new Administration. But I thyink you will agree that , an important starting point would be to assure that Latinos are well represented at all levels of city government --- from political appointments, to agency managers, commission and board members and front line positions. This will be the major task of Mayor-elect de Blasio's transition team and it important that the Latino community weighs in loud and clear at this early stage in this process.
We hope you can join us in making sure that Bill de Blasio hears loud and clear from the Latino community of our interest in joining him as full partners in making his new agenda for New York City a reality.
Un abrazo,
Angelo Falcón
