Dear SIDA member,
The club will be holding a series of endorsement votes during the next few meetings, pertaining to the NYC municipal elections. These are done by secret ballot.
The club constitution requires that a candidate must receive a majority of all votes cast to gain the endorsement - not merely a plurality. Proxy votes are not allowed: you must be present to vote.
Endorsement ballots permit you to vote for a candidate or "No Endorsement" -- in uncontested elections, candidates are not guaranteed an endorsement, and in an election with two candidates there is still a possibility that neither one will receive a majority and subsequently an endorsement.
Schedule of endorsement votes:
May 21: NYC Comptroller; NYC Council, Districts 49 and 50.
June 18: NYC Public Advocate
Endorsement vote dates for NYC Mayor, Staten Island Borough President, and NYC Council District 51 will be determined in the near future.
Please be aware of our new meeting locale: The Manor House Restaurant, 2nd floor.
Speakers at our May meeting: Jamie Kemmerer, John Liu, Reshma Saujani.
Speaker at our June meeting: Bill de Blasio.
