Lucas,
This vote is critical.
Congress can either vote for strong consumer protections or against them.
The Senate will hold a vote this week to confirm Richard Cordray as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Cordray has done an excellent job directing the agency thus far, but Senate Republicans are — yet again — threatening to filibuster his formal nomination to head the agency unless the CFPB is fundamentally weakened.
Make sure your senators know you want Cordray at the helm of a strong CFPB.
The simple fact is that a vote for Cordray is a vote for consumer protection, while a vote against Cordray is a vote against consumer protection.
Ironically, several of these Republican senators have no issue with Cordray and even seem to approve of the job he is doing. Earlier this year, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) praised Cordray during his nomination hearing: "I think you have done a wonderful job so far in carrying out your duties."
We can't afford to let ridiculous partisan antics get in the way of meaningful safeguards for consumers.
Tell your senators to stand up to Wall St. — and to stand with consumers — by confirming Richard Cordray.
Here's what Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said about the Republican filibuster threat and attempts to weaken the CFPB:
"The American people deserve a Congress that worries less about helping big banks … and more about helping regular people who have been cheated on mortgages, on credit cards, on student loans and on credit reports."
Congress has a simple choice — protect corporate raiders or regular people.
Contact your senators today. Tell them to confirm Richard Cordray.
Thanks for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Kelly Ngo
