I'd like to tell you why I'm so proud of my daughter, Reshma.
Forty years ago, my husband and I were forced to leave our home in Uganda after the dictator Idi Amin came to power. Reshma's dad and I were granted political asylum here in the United States and soon began our lives as immigrants in a new country.
We didn't have much money, but we worked hard to give Reshma and her sister the opportunities they needed to get a good education.
Our hard work has paid off- Reshma is a product of the American Dream.
As she grew up, I proudly watched Reshma take care of the neighborhood kids that were being bullied. At the age of 13, she led a march to fight discrimination.
Reshma's always been a change agent.
This little girl in the picture, who once had a pet rabbit named Snickers, is now running for New York Public Advocate so all New Yorkers can have the opportunity to get a good education, a job, and access to affordable housing.
Right now, Reshma needs your help. She has a deadline this Saturday at midnight, and still needs another 196 people to contribute to her campaign.
Will you please help her out with a contribution of $25?
Thank you so much for helping my daughter.
Best,
Meena Saujani
