OLD FIELD'S OLD TREASURER GETS ARRESTED

DiNapoli Response to Arrest of Former Old Field Treasurer

While conducting an audit and investigation of the Village of Old Field in Suffolk County, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s staff uncovered the misappropriation of nearly $60,000 in village funds by Andrea Brosnan, the former village treasurer.

Findings were referred to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas J. Spota who conducted a further investigation and arrested Brosnan yesterday. She has been charged with several felonies, including Grand Larceny in the second degree, Falsifying Business Records in the first degree, Defrauding the Government, as well as Official Misconduct.

DiNapoli’s audit of the Village of Old Field is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

“Instead of guarding taxpayer dollars and using them for proper village purposes, this former official stole tens of thousands of dollars to purchase clothing, electronics, gas, postage, utility payments and even used public money to help pay for her divorce," DiNapoli said. "The coordinated efforts of District Attorney Spota’s office and members of my staff helped bring this individual to justice. My office will continue to work diligently to uncover any instances where public figures abuse their positions to steal from taxpayers.”
