Lucas,
On Friday afternoon, the executive council of 1199SEIU, NYC's biggest union and the biggest healthcare union in the nation, voted to endorse Bill de Blasio -- and the vote was unanimous.
The truth is, the choice was clear for us.
Bill de Blasio is a principled champion of working people. He has the strongest vision for our city's future -- one that includes good jobs, affordable housing, quality education, healthcare, and dignity for all -- and he has the energy to make that vision a reality.
He is the authentic progressive choice.
Bill has consistently said the hard truth: if we're going to be serious about our kids' education, we have to ask the wealthiest to pay their fair share. He fought for uncompromising paid sick leave for every New Yorker, and quality homecare for seniors. Bill has shown a true commitment to working families -- siding with people over politics since the beginning -- and has fought to lift communities by fighting for fair wages, affordable housing, access to healthcare services and meaningful stop and frisk reform.
Bill de Blasio is raising standards for working people, and when he becomes mayor, he will ensure that all New Yorkers rise together.
And because you are one of Bill's best supporters, I wanted to make sure you heard directly from me:
The nurses and caregivers of 1199SEIU are proud to join you in working passionately to ensure that Bill de Blasio is our next mayor of New York City.
I also want to make sure you know what our endorsement means.
1199SEIU has over 200,000 members in New York City, and we are highly engaged and politically active. We are deeply connected to and active in our communities across all five boroughs. And we're going work harder than we ever have before to help elect Bill. That means dedicating thousands of volunteer hours for door-to-door canvassing, phone banking and other activities.
We're mobilizing at the grassroots like never before. And together, we'll send Bill to City Hall.
In solidarity,
George Gresham
President, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East
