A PLACE AT THE TABLE

A Place At the Table opens March 1

Dear Lucas,

Last week, hunger and poverty take the national spotlight with the release of A Place at the Table, a new documentary film from Participant Media, producers of other award-winning films like Food, Inc. and Waiting for "Superman."

The film features Americans from all walks of life who struggle with hunger, people like:

  • Barbie, a single mother in Philadelphia who grew up in poverty but is trying to break the cycle and provide a better life for her two kids.
  • Rosie, a bright, Colorado 5th-grader who often depends on friends and neighbors to feed her and who has trouble concentrating in school because she doesn't have a reliable food at source home.

It's a rare opportunity to take a close up look at hunger in America, its causes, and the devastating toll that it takes on families and children. Share Our Strength and our work to end childhood hunger in America is featured in the film. Founder, Billy Shore, appears in the film, along with No Kid Hungry national spokesperson and Academy Award-winner Jeff Bridges.

Both Billy and Jeff share their passion and belief that we can and must end hunger. One of Jeff's most poignant and memorably lines in the film: "If another country were doing this to our children, we'd be at war."

If you're passionate about ending hunger like we are, I hope you'll see the film, and encourage your friends to see it as well. Over the weekend, A Place at the Table played in 32 cities. If it's not yet in your city, the film is also available via iTunes and video OnDemand.

See the film and let us know what you think. We hope it will inspire you as it did us.

Thanks for being a part of Team No Kid Hungry,
