THE CUTTING ROOM FOR ABE GEORGE

Lucas --

New York's legal community is rallying around a simple but powerful idea: Brooklyn deserves a new District Attorney.

Two recent cases help illustrate why:

David Ranta and William Lopez were both wrongfully convicted by incumbent Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes. In both cases, Hynes' office hid vital evidence that would have exonerated the defendants and then fought for years to keep the men in prison.

Last week a federal judge barred Hynes from ever retrying Lopez, noting that the case was “rotten from day one.” Ranta was recently released from prison.

As the Village Voice recently pointed out, these cases are not unique, and DA Hynes has done almost nothing to address his office's egregious pattern of Brady violations.

I believe that Brooklyn needs a DA who will not tolerate the kind of misconduct that put Ranta, Lopez, and too many other innocent people behind bars. Attorneys across New York City support my campaign, among them David Boies, who today is arguing before the Supreme Court in favor of marriage equality.

As Brooklyn DA I will ensure that police and prosecutors strictly follow the law and provide each and every defendant with a fair trial. I will strive to get every case right the first time, and facilitate a strong, independent Conviction Integrity Unit to review and correct the injustices of the past.

I already raised over $210,000 as of January but I need your support to keep my campaign moving forward. Please join me tomorrow at The Cutting Room, at 44 East 32nd Street, for an important fundraiser. Come grab a drink, meet me, and learn more about my platform. With your help, we will build a better Brooklyn DA’s Office.

When: Wednesday, March 27th, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: The Cutting Room, 44 East 32nd Street (Manhattan)

Thank you for your support. I hope to see you tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Abe George
