Dear Lucas,
When a child misses breakfast, it can drastically reduce their chances at success in school and later in life. That’s why increasing breakfast participation is a primary goal of the No Kid Hungry campaign.
Once the Breakfast in the Classroom program began at Pattillo Elementary in North Carolina, faculty and staff reported fewer discipline problems, calmer hallways, and more focused students. Principal Ronda Sortina says, “My school was transformed by breakfast for the better.” Now the children at Pattillo Elementary have the chance they deserve to succeed in life.
The No Kid Hungry campaign is working hard to help transform schools like this one all across the country.
But we need your help. We want to know how many schools in your area serve breakfast so that we can get an idea of what is going on in local communities.
Will you call your local school and ask if they provide a school breakfast program?
You can get started in the following easy steps:
- Visit http://nokidhungry.org/breakfastmap and type in your ZIP code
- Select a school (you’ll see the contact info and what specifically to ask)
- Fill in the responses to add that school’s information to the map
By taking action today, you will help fill in the gaps on our interactive Breakfast Map, creating an unprecedented view of school breakfast in America and helping to identify schools that need help bringing breakfast to their students. Please make the call to your local school(s) and learn more about school breakfast programs where you live.
Thanks for all that you do to end childhood hunger.
Sincerely,
Billy Shore
