LEAVE. MEDICARE. ALONE

Lucas,

Three words:

Leave. Medicare. Alone.

That's our simple and resolute response to Paul Ryan and other congressional Republicans whose latest budget proposes to end Medicare as we know it.

Add your name to the petition telling Paul Ryan: Leave Medicare alone!

And don't just sign the petition. Forward this email to at least five other people who share your commitment to keeping Medicare strong.

Paul Ryan and too many other members of Congress claim that Medicare cuts are necessitated by a concern that the program could bankrupt our country.

But the reality is that corporate stooges and anti-progressives in Congress have always wanted to dismantle Medicare, despite — or maybe because of? — its unassailable success.

So now they're exploiting our nation's economic anxieties to manufacture a false crisis that gives them cover to go after Medicare.

We won't solve our nation's alleged debt crisis by throwing vulnerable fellow citizens to the for-profit health insurance wolves. Take action right now, then ask your friends and family members to join you in signing the petition.

Paul Ryan has it exactly upside down.

Medicare saves money.

It is the private insurance companies, not Medicare, that waste hundreds of billions of dollars every year on excessive profit-taking and executive compensation, exorbitant marketing costs, vast bureaucracies devoted to denying care, and massive paper-pushing impositions on actual health care providers.

Paul Ryan's politically disingenuous and economically preposterous budget proposes to provide vouchers to senior citizens that, unlike Medicare today, would cover only some of their health insurance premiums. And it makes other fundamental changes to the way Medicare currently works that would eventually all but dismantle the program.

Enough.

Seriously, enough. The way forward is to improve and expand Medicare, not to privatize and voucherize it.

Tell Paul Ryan to leave Medicare alone.

And don't forget to help build momentum against Paul Ryan's plan to end Medicare as we know it — get five other people to take action too.
