Dear Lucas,
Last summer, I received this handwritten note in the mail:
Dear Difference Makers at Share Our Strength,
My name is Esme of Staten Island. When my Grandmother Maria came to America from China she raised my father and his two sisters. When the grandfather I never knew abandoned them his family was poor and hungry which is why half a century later I signed up [for] Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry with the help with my best friends Michele and Shrethi.
Together we earned $125 in one day. Please continue your work to end childhood hunger in America. You said change began with me but you started the change in me.
XOXO Esme
P.S. I'm only 11 (if you didn't guess).
I've never been so inspired by a letter — I hope it inspires you in the same way it does me. Esme is not only a Baker, she's also a
Difference Maker.
You, too, are a Difference Maker, and I hope that you'll consider making a difference this spring by signing up for Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry. It's a fun, engaging program that allows anyone -- whether you're 5 or 95 -- to make a difference for hungry kids.
In just 10 years, Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry has raised $9.6 million dollars to help feed kids in need across the country. Host a Bake Sale for No Kid Hungry in your community — every $1 you raise can help connect a hungry child to 10 meals.
Sign up today and we'll give you all the tools you need to plan and host a successful bake sale. Like Esme, I'll hope you'll join us in being both a Baker and a Difference Maker.
Sincerely,
Jessica Bomberg
