Video Transcript:
I think that there have been a lot of advances in progressive organizing in the last decade or two. I think we've advanced on this idea of coalition building; and it's important to connect the dots and to see the commonality and the struggles around empowerment and equality.
As a civil rights attorney, I've represented New Yorkers in their fights to keep affordable housing. I've represented folks to make sure that they've had fair work environments and fair wages for their work.
I've created hundreds of jobs for New Yorkers. I have stood up to some of the most powerful special interests in this city to fight to restore hospital services. And as the next City Council Member for the Lower West Side of Manhattan , I will fight to make sure we have a hospital for our community.
I'm running for City Council because I believe we need to recapture public interest and public service in public office. I think that the way that we change some of the problems that we, as a community, face is for us to come together as a community. When we come together as a community, we can win.
I don't want to just become the next City Council Member; I want to actually change the way that we do government in New York City. We need independent advocates in City Council who can be the voice for those who do not have a voice.
Hi, I'm Yetta Kurland and I'm running for New York City Council.
