WTC Health Registry Surveys Impact of Hurricane Sandy on Enrollees
The World Trade Center Health Registry is surveying the impact of Hurricane Sandy, a second major disaster, on the physical and mental health of Registry enrollees. The survey was sent in April to approximately 4,500 enrollees who lived in flood zones and to an equal number of enrollees who didn’t.
The new survey, begun less than 6 months after the hurricane, will enable the Registry to assess changes in posttraumatic stress symptoms among both groups since PTSD was last measured in 2011-2012. It includes questions about preparedness, exposures and experiences both during and after the storm such as evacuation, displacement and property loss, and psychological resilience.

Help Put a Human Face on the WTC Health Registry
Media occasionally ask to interview enrollees of the WTC Health Registry about Registry surveys or findings. Because these interviews help people better understand the health effects of 9/11 and Registry activities, the Registry is recruiting volunteers for this purpose. September 11th Victim Compensation Act
The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), reopened by the James L. Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, is now accepting claims.
Information about eligibility and the documents needed to file a claim can be found on the VCF website along with frequently asked questions and video instructions.
Enrollees in need of documentation establishing their presence at the WTC site to support VCF claims can authorize release of relevant survey information to the VCF. Call 866-692-9827 to request an authorization form.
Annual Report
The World Trade Center Health Registry released its 2012 annual report (PDF).
Adolescent Survey
The World Trade Center Health Registry launched its third pediatric survey in November 2011. More than 1,300 adolescent enrollees who were exposed to the WTC disaster are being asked to share valuable information about their health 10 years after 9/11. Data collection ended on September 30, 2012.
Adult Survey
The World Trade Center Health Registry launched its 2011-12 adult health survey (PDF) in June 2011. This is the third survey for all enrollees. Data collection ended March 18, 2012.

Staten Island Landfill and Barge Workers Survey
More than 2,300 landfill and barge workers have responded to this Registry survey which has help us better understand 9/11-related exposures at the World Trade Center Recovery Operations on Staten Island and during transport of WTC materials. Telephone interviews with 20 enrollees shaped the survey questions and formed the basis for a scientific article. Additional survey findings will be reported at a later date.
Findings
Your survey responses help us publish important findings in the scientific literature and influence health policy at all levels of government. For example, WTC Health Registry research based on previous surveys helped persuade Congress to pass the James Zadroga Act 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

- Co-occurrence, or comorbidity, of respiratory and mental health conditions experienced by many enrollees
9/11 Treatment Referral Program
The 9/11 Treatment Referral Program was created to help you get care for 9/11-related health problems. Trained staff have already helped more than 600 enrollees find services and schedule an appointment.
The Registry continues to contact enrollees who reported unmet health care needs on the their surveys and to provide referrals to free or low-cost WTC treatment programs. You can call the 9/11 Treatment Referral Program at 888-982-7848.
