Lucas,
Last week, you stood with me when I wrote about the all-male Republican House Judiciary Committee passing one of the most anti-woman and anti-choice pieces of legislation in recent history.
Hundreds and hundreds stood up to voice your outrage – but, unfortunately, Michael Grimm and the Republicans in Congress didn't listen and on Tuesday night they passed the bill in the full House.
Make no mistake, this bill is the most extreme anti-choice bill we've seen in quite a while. Among its many egregious provisions, this bill would shame victims of rape by forcing them to file a police report in order to preserve their constitutionally-protected right to reproductive choice, it would disallow adult victims of incest from accessing medical services, and it makes no exception for the health of the mother.
Yes, that's right. Instead of talking about the economy or creating jobs, Michael Grimm and his leadership decided it was more important to take up an extreme bill focused on limiting women's reproductive rights. He voted against women making health care choices for themselves and that is unacceptable.
The fight is not over -- we must make sure our voices are heard. If you haven't had a chance to add your name to our petition, please take a minute and do so here. Tell Congress they have their priorities all wrong and we need change.
As your Congressman, I won't waste time rolling back the clock forty years on women's rights. I will make sure that private medical decisions stay right where they belong, between a woman and her doctor.
Sincerely,
Domenic
