Dear Lucas,
At a free summer meals site in Flint, Michigan, brothers Sam and Josh were sharing a sandwich, fruit and milk. The younger brother, Sam, sliced off his sandwich crust and looked around for a trash can.
Before Sam could toss the crust, Josh stopped his brother, saying,
"Tomorrow's Saturday. Save your crust. We'll dip it in water and have a good breakfast together."
The younger boy heeded his brother's advice and stuffed the bread crust into his pocket.
Stories like this break my heart, because I know we can do better for kids like Sam and Josh. Josh's words illustrate a reality that far too many of our nation's kids are experiencing: not enough food at home. It underscores the importance of connecting families like theirs to available federal nutrition programs and reaching more kids with summer meals.
This summer, we have a goal to raise $100,000. For every $1 you give, the Arby's Foundation will match your gift up to $100,000 — doubling the power of your gift.
Our No Kid Hungry campaign in Michigan has set a goal of reaching an additional 3,000 kids across the state with summer meals, through investments in strategies like more targeted outreach to families that could benefit from the program and innovations like mobile meals programs that bring the meals to previously underserved areas. Summer meals programs like these in Michigan and across the country can help save summer for children like Sam and Josh — and your gift helps make it possible.
And because the Arby's Foundation is matching every dollar up to $100,000 that you give to No Kid Hungry this summer, we can double our impact and help connect kids to up to 2 million meals! Please give as much as you can afford today.
With you on the No Kid Hungry team, I know we can end childhood hunger.
Sincerely,
Billy Shore
