JESSICA'S GOT IDEAS

Dear Lucas,

For centuries, New York City has been a thriving and beaconing commercial hub. Its geography and spirit has long attracted and inspired workers and entrepreneurs. Yet we can’t take our economic success for granted.

Our campaign for Manhattan borough president has recently released an important policy paper that outlines my vision for keeping our economic engine humming by using the power of the borough president's office to create jobs, attract top talent, and diversify our economy.

Growing our economy will take energy, leadership, and ideas. Mine include:

  • Eliminating outdated and unnecessary regulations that make life difficult for small business owners.
  • Expanding the New Business Acceleration Program to help even more businesses open quickly.
  • Growing the biotech sector by securing new, affordable office spaces for biotech firms, and continuing the city’s biotech tax credit.
  • Making in-house "business expeditors" available in the borough president’s office to help companies navigate city agencies.
  • Reforming the New York City Industrial Development Agency (IDA) to increase transparency and accountability.
  • Advocating for a chief diversity officer to enhance the city’s Minority- and Women-Owned Businesses (MWBE) program.
  • Creating a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education Coalition with the Department of Education, tech industry leaders, and higher education institutions to expand STEM opportunities at New York City public schools.
