CAP THE LUXURY TAX

Lucas,

I think I'll buy a yacht.

On second thought, I can’t afford a yacht. Or a jet. After all, I do work in Democratic politics. But if I were able to buy yachts and jets, I’d be grateful to Thom Tillis, Phil Berger, and Pat McCrory for a tax plan that caps the sales tax on these luxury items at $1,500 but ends the sales tax holiday on school supplies and doesn't renew the Earned Income Tax Credit, hiking taxes on more than 60,000 military families.

Now, that’s a great deal for the yacht and jet crowd, but it’s a raw deal for North Carolina! After promising tax reform that would level the playing the field, Thom Tillis, Phil Berger, and Pat McCrory chose to preserve handouts to their special interest backers. And who’s paying the bills? That’s right – you and me.

And what does this do for our economy? It was just announced today that North Carolina shed 11,000 jobs in June and our unemployment remains unchanged at 8.8% - that’s 1.2% higher than the national average and leaving us stuck with the 5th highest unemployment rate in the country.

Now is the time to stand up for what’s right and hold these extremists accountable. As I write this, I’m busy working with Democrats from all around our state on what we can do to push back. Right now, we need to let everyone in North Carolina know what their legislature is up to. Can I ask you for a contribution of $14 today so I can get this message out?

We need to do all we can to restore sanity to Raleigh and that only happens when we hold people like Thom Tillis, Phil Berger, and Pat McCrory accountable. Please, help us get this message out across the state. Only with your help will we be successful.

Thanks,

Robert Dempsey
Executive Director, North Carolina Democratic Party

P.S. Tillis, Berger, and McCrory are working overtime to line the pockets of their special interest buddies. Your contribution of $14 will be put to use immediately to shine a light on Jones Street and with your help we can bring accountability back to our state government.
