You've heard a lot about Stop and Frisk lately, and thanks to the fearless leadership of Council Members Jumaane Williams, Brad Lander, and their allies, the City Council passed legislation to reform Stop and Frisk. We've finally made some progress to hold Mayor Bloomberg accountable.
But this morning, while again threatening to veto bills that would end the overuse and abuse of Stop and Frisk, Mayor Bloomberg actually said that he thinks we disproportionately stop minorities "too little."
"Too little"? Really?
Rather than standing up for communities and people across this city, my Democratic opponents are unwilling to stand up to the Mayor's misuse of this policy.
Mayor Bloomberg is wrong, and I am the only person running for mayor who is willing to say so.
To truly fix Stop and Frisk, we need an independent Inspector General and a racial profiling ban, and we need both of them now.
