Dear Lucas --
For two months, this City has been working to recover from the biggest storm to hit us in generations.
Elected officials, City workers, community and labor organizations like Transit Forward Coalition and TWU Local 100, Occupy Sandy, and individuals like you and me, have come together in this time of crisis.
But we cannot do this alone. We expect, and deserve, our country to join us in these recovery efforts. Last night, the Republican-led U.S. Congress failed to do so. They adjourned the 2012 session without addressing the $60 Billion of vitally needed aid to Sandy survivors and businesses in our City and our region.
I believe in an America with as strong a commitment to the common good, as strong as what I have seen from my neighbors here in New York City . That's why I'm joining with the Working Families Party and others to call on Congress to bring the Hurricane Sandy relief bill up for a vote before Congress adjourns Thursday.
Congress has until tomorrow to act on this vital bill. This legislation is not just about money - it's about thousands of our neighbors without homes, without adequate transportation, with businesses trying to dig out. Time could not be more essential and gratitude for our Democratic leaders in Congress could not be more heartfelt.
It is for this reason that I write to ask you to
join me in calling our local Members of Congress, Representatives Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney to thank them for their work and leadership and to ask them what they need from us, to let America know we need to pass the Sandy Relief Bill. I am including telephone numbers and scripts below and thank you in advance for looking out for your fellow New Yorkers.
Best,
Yetta

"Dear Congressmember Maloney/Congressmember Nadler, thank you for all that you are doing to help with relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know and thank you for standing up to Speaker Boehner and calling on him to pass the bill that would provide financial relief for Hurricane Sandy survivors."
