KEEP YOUR INFO SAFE

Know the benefits, know the risks

Take the Next Step
Privacy and Security

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.

You have a smart phone. You can access your health info on your phone. That has great benefits. You can access info on the go, at home, or in an emergency. It also has risks - your privacy, and security of that information. HHS’ Office of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has new tools to help you keep your health information safe.

Kathryn Marchesini is with the Office of the National Coordinator.

“Anyone with a mobile device can use our resources, available online. Everyone can use the materials to emulate good privacy and security practices.”

Some basic questions we can all ask ourselves.

“Do patients use a password to access their mobile device? Do they have an ability to remotely wipe the information on the device, if for some reason it gets lost or stolen?”
