Prevent the Spread of Flu

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Susan Laird with HHS HealthBeat.

We don’t know yet exactly how severe this flu season will be. But what we do know is that getting the flu shot is the most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your family and co-workers. Some people still believe that the flu shot can make you sick—and that just isn’t true.

Dr. Michael Junge from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Influenza Division had this to say…

“The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. The most common side effects from a flu shot are a sore arm and maybe a low fever or achiness. That’s much better than getting sick and missing several days of school or work or possibly getting a very severe illness and needing to go to the hospital.”
