HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF: How You Are Helping
In the immediate weeks following the storm, the Mayor's Fund focused on meeting emergency needs of New Yorkers, including hot food, warm clothing, and baby supplies, as well as transportation for residents to shelters, prescriptions for homebound individuals, and debris removal in affected areas. A partnership with local food trucks helped distribute more than 275,000 free hot meals in some of the hardest hit areas. The Fund also worked with philanthropic partners to establish loan and grant programs for nonprofit organizations and local small businesses affected by the hurricane - totaling $31.5 million.
We're proud of the progress that has been made, but know we still have far to go. We are committed to supporting longer-term rebuilding and restoration efforts including assistance for schools, parks, and displaced families, and continue to work in close partnership with New York City agencies and community partners.
Below is a snapshot of what has been achieved thanks to your great support.
