CHE MARAVIGLIA!

In a medical malpractice lawsuit, Dr. Irina Lokshina managed to win--and lose--a jury verdict in her favor.

Her pattient -- Joan Maraviglia -- argued that the doctor's lawyer won the case because he inappropriately attacked Joan and her witnesses in the jury's presence. (At one point, the defendant's counsel reportedly said Joan was "working the system" and that her doctor was the "go-to" guy for anyone who wanted to stop working. He also described Maraviglia's medical expert as "out of control" and the latter's hospital as a "parking lot.")

Finding the defense counsel's comments to be "inflammatory," the Appellate Division, Second Department, vacated the jury verdict and ordered a new trial.

Will wonders never cease.
