Hurricane Sandy left a heart-breaking number of people homeless and with nowhere to turn. Many had pets. As these people scrambled to rebuild their lives, maintain some normalcy for their children and find a permanent home, they worried: Will my beloved pets be torn from my arms, too?
Can you imagine?
Fortunately people like you ensured that wouldn't happen. With the help of our kind-hearted donors, the ASPCA launched our Emergency Boarding Facility for families affected by Sandy. We gave hundreds of pets a place to go until their pet parents could get back on their feet, and it meant the world to them and to us.
Many families came to visit the pets in our care. One of these pet parents, Aheber, was well-known around the boarding facility. He came to visit his dog every single day.
As we got to know Aheber, we learned that coming to visit his beloved pet, Magnus, was much more difficult for him than we'd thought. He had to walk a great distance to the boarding facility, and said: "I don't consider the walk to be too much of a sacrifice…The sacrifice, you don't think of it so much. You think of why you're doing it. And I'm entirely committed to him."
And we're committed to being there for families like Magnus' in their time of need. Read the rest of Magnus and Aheber's story.
