ANGELO ON ED

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former NYC Mayor Ed Koch. He was an important part of the history of our organization and the city's Latino community, often at odds with our organization when he was Mayor when we were called the Institute for Puerto Rican Policy (IPR). I remember bumping into him at a showing of the Denzel Washington movie, The Great Debaters, back in 2007 (he took to writing movie reviews for a local paper). I hadn't seen him in years and went up to him to say hello. He sees me and yelled out, "Angelo Falcón! The troublemaker! Keep on making trouble!" Whatever one had to say about Ed Koch, he represented the character of New York City like no one else --- he was real, loud, committed, infuriating, willing to fight the good fight until the end, and a pain-in-the-ass but in a good way! New York City will not be the same without him.
