As a mom, nothing is more exciting than seeing my two boys' minds grow. When my kindergartner Henry comes home and shows me he can count all the way to 1,000 and read basic words, I know that it is because of the foundation he received in pre-K.
But the tragedy is knowing other children are going without this opportunity.
Quality early childhood education has been proven crucial to a child's development, yet it is out of reach for too many. The block a child grows up on cannot be allowed to determine his or her chance of future success.
We can expand opportunity by making pre-kindergarten available to every family.
Help make it so.
The Strong Start for America's Children Act that I'm sponsoring will change the lives of millions of boys and girls, but it will never get through Congress without you demanding it.
Click here to tell Congress to pass universal pre-K and give more children a chance to learn and achieve their full potential.
Universal pre-K not only allows our kids to get a good start, but it also allows mothers to remain on the job, earning a paycheck and helping our economy grow.
The Strong Start Act would help more children arrive at kindergarten ready to succeed by funding a 10-year early childhood education initiative expanding early learning opportunities for children up to age five. It would do so by providing high-quality preschool to low- and moderate-income families through the Early Head Start program.
One study reported an amazing number: every $1 invested in pre-K returns $11 in economic benefits over a child's life.
We need to make this happen today. Make your voice heard and together we will transform millions of families' lives.
Tell Congress: Pass universal pre-K to expand opportunity and invest in our future.
Thank you so much for standing for our kids,
Kirsten [Gillibrand]
