HOW PETIT?

After Ashley Bermudez pleaded guilty to petit larceny, the New York County Criminal court imposed a sentence of six days of community service. And when she failed to comply with the court's mandate, a more severe penalty was imposed.

On appeal, the Appellate Term, First Department, could discern no irregularity with what the judge had done. (Once Ashley failed to fulfill her side of the bargain, the court was free to impose a harsher sentence.)

That was some disservice.
