THEY ARE NOT COMMON CRIMINALS

BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON PROPOSAL TO FINGERPRINT NYCHA RESIDENTS

"My family and I were products of public housing in the 1960's, following the passing of my father and the subsequent financial struggles we faced. I know very well the challenges facing NYCHA residents, including their substandard living conditions and unacceptable wait times for repairs. Public safety is a real concern in these communities, but the answer is not fingerprinting that will catalog residents, making them feel as if they are common criminals. What they want, need and deserve is simple security, which we can achieve by installing security cameras and putting more police officers in our neighborhoods."
