TAKING ACTION AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT

Lucas,

Congress might be in recess, but the ongoing crisis of sexual assault in the military is too urgent to put off addressing. That is why I have spent this recess bringing more attention to this cause.

We are on our way to a real solution, but we need to keep pushing.

The bill I have proposed currently has 46 senators publicly supporting it. We have made a lot of progress, but we need more support – and we will get it only by continuing to make ourselves heard.

We have just 22 days to recapture senators’ attention before the recess is over. Will you join me in speaking out so that we can get this bill passed as soon as the Senate is back in session?

Click here to join Daily Kos and me in demanding that the U.S. Senate pass the Military Justice Improvement Act right away.

Survivors tell us that these crimes go unreported because either they think nothing will be done, or they fear a backlash from their commanders, who currently decide what constitutes assault.

As a result, too many cases are ignored, swept under the rug and discarded – allowing predators to repeat their crimes.

Every day we put off addressing this crisis, it grows in size.

We must ensure victims can seek justice by transferring prosecution to independent prosecutors. We are close to a victory, but we cannot get there without your help.

Tell the U.S. Senate to take action against sexual assault in the military.

When our country needs protecting, we look to our brave men and women in uniform. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye when they need our help.

Kirsten
