Dear Lucas,
Every August, our members of Congress leave Washington and travel home specifically to hear from their constituents on the issues they care about. This August, let's make sure they're hearing about childhood hunger.
When our representatives left DC, they left massive cuts to SNAP, formerly food stamps, and SNAP Nutrition Education (SNAP Ed) looming on the table. Most recently, damaging legislation was proposed in the House of Representatives that would cut SNAP by $40 billion, impacting millions of families and kids across the country and in your community.
Did you know that the majority of SNAP households have an income of less than $24,000 a year for a family of four? SNAP benefits are critical to ensuring that these families can put food on their tables when times are tough.
August recess is a great opportunity to make sure your members of Congress are hearing your your support for nutrition programs that help feed kids loud and clear. Take advantage of your members of Congress being home by sending a letter to the editor of your local paper.
Letters to the editor are a great way to explain to your elected officials and your community why you support nutrition programs that help end childhood hunger, like SNAP and SNAP Ed.
We've made it easy for you to do this! We created some suggested talking points so all you have to do is sign your name.
Thanks for all that you do,
The No Kid Hungry Campaign
