Dear Lucas,
First the sequester, now Ryan White funding has been cut, what's next? We need your help!
Nearly $540,000 in funding for GMHC's services was recently cut because of the sequester. As if this wasn't devastating enough to the thousands of people with HIV/AIDS we help, we just received some more dire news...
Several weeks ago, the Health and Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced an unbelievable 15% cut in Ryan White funding to GMHC this year! Ryan White funding is specifically set up to provide care for people with HIV. To correct a formulaic error in New York State's funding between 2010 and 2012, HRSA is taking back millions of dollars in 2013 from GMHC and other AIDS service organizations in the area.
GMHC is in the midst of the most severe financial setbacks in our history. Your support is urgently needed right now to make up this devastating funding shortfall.
Cuts to some of our most critical programs - food and nutrition, legal and mental health services, and HIV testing - mean thousands of men and women are losing vital support they desperately need to survive. If we do not respond quickly, these drastic cutbacks will have dangerous long-term consequences. Please help today in any way you can - the people we serve are counting on us, and they are counting on you.
Sincerely,
Janet Weinberg
Chief Operating Officer
