As you know, the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) denied our campaign millions of dollars in matching funds. This is money that was donated with the expectation that it would be matched through our taxdollars, as allowed by law. We feel that there has been a terrible injustice committed, not only to the Liu campaign, but to all of us who pay our taxes. John has done everything right to comply with the CFB. The 5-person Board, comprised of Bloomberg and Quinn appointees, sent a terrible message when deeming our contributions as not worthy as any other fellow New Yorker's contribution. It makes us mad that we as New Yorkers are being denied of our ability to leverage our own dollars.
Now it is up to us to step up by giving another contribution.
Many of us have contributed again or hosted fundraisers after hearing of this injustice, as have many of our friends. Through your past generous contributions, you have shown that you, too, believe that John will be the best Mayor for New York City.
Here are some of the reasons why John Liu has our support:
- If John Liu becomes mayor he will be able to turn this city around to be a more equitable place to live. He will help restore our schools to a place of learning and not a place of testing that disrespects students, parents and teachers. He will halt the privatization direction that schools have taken.
- He will see that developers pay their fair share of taxes and stop getting big subsidies of our tax money to increase their profits.
- He will work to end the homelessness that has increased under this past administration. He will work to increase affordable housing and to save NYCHA housing.
- He will see to it that all residents are treated without discrimination.
- John will see that the City stops paying large salaries to private contractors and instead hires city workers at a fair wage to perform the jobs that have been farmed out to high-salaried private contractors. He will work to increase minimum wage.
- He will work for small businesses and stop the give a-ways to big business.
- He will work to create a sustainable environment and protect New York City from future climate disasters.
We all need to pitch in to help John win this election and not allow those who have viewed him as a threat be successful in their efforts to block his popular campaign.
