HONORING MARY SARRO

Join us at the Street Co-Naming Ceremony for Mary Sarro!

Long time Queens Community Board 3 District Manager Mary Sarro began her career of public service as a volunteer secretary of Planning Board 3, eventually becoming district manager where she served for nearly 20 years. Mary was a founder of the Catherine M. Sheridan Senior Citizen Center, and helped found the 82nd Street Business Improvement District. An early supporter of LGBT rights in the community, Sarro helped assure the NYPD that the community board wanted the Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade in Jackson Heights. Each and every street in Jackson Heights bears a sign of change sparked by Sarro, who helped plant trees, create community gardens and increase the safety and well being of her neighbors.
