Lucas --
My grandfather led this city with strength, vision, and a commitment to fairness. He believed New York was a place where everyone should have a shot -- not just a privileged few.
And for that, Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia is rightly remembered as one of New York City's best.
New York has seen great prosperity since my grandfather's time, but too many are being left behind. While almost 400,000 millionaires call this city home, 46% of its residents live at or near the poverty line.
This Tale of Two Cities we're living doesn't reflect the values great New Yorkers like my grandfather advanced -- and it's the job of the next mayor to do something about it.
There is only one candidate who will: Bill de Blasio.
I've known Bill for many years. He is a real New Yorker and he really understands and cares about the City.
He is the only one who will ask the wealthy to help fund universal pre-k and after school programs that keep our kids safe; the only one who supports the full package of reforms to end a stop-and-frisk era defined by racial profiling; and the only one with a plan for nearly 200,000 affordable housing units.
Bill de Blasio is a candidate in the LaGuardia mold -- a progressive with bold and humane ideas who is not afraid to take a stand for the people of New York City. He is the progressive choice for Mayor, and I'm working hard to make sure he's elected.
With less than two weeks remaining in this election, I ask you to join me in committing to vote for Bill de Blasio on September 10th:

As a doctor, I'm supporting Bill because of his leadership in the fight to keep neighborhood hospitals open for care.
And as a LaGuardia, I am supporting Bill because he'll be a mayor for all New Yorkers -- a mayor like my grandfather.
Thanks,
Katherine
