THEY'RE GETTING KICKED OUT, TOMORROW

Dear Lucas,

On Tuesday, my daughter Marisol and I will be kicked out of the hotel room that we've called home since our apartment was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. Marisol and I are not alone, hundreds of families displaced by Super-storm Sandy are still living in hotels and in a few days, we'll be thrown into the streets because of an arbitrary deadline set by the Department of Homeless Services

No family wants to call a cramped hotel room home, but until we can find an affordable apartment, we have nowhere else to go. That's why I started this petition to DHS Commissioner Seth Diamond, demanding he extend the deadline. If we can get enough people to sign this petition, we can pressure Commissioner Diamond to do the right thing and not throw families like mine out onto the streets.

When Sandy hit, the roof of my apartment collapsed and we lost everything. Finding an affordable apartment in New York is hard enough when your life hasn't been completely turned upside down by an unprecedented natural disaster- something that could happen to anyone. The last thing I need for my daughter, six months after the storm is more uncertainty.

Don't let DHS throw my family and other Sandy Victims out on the streets. Click here to sign the petition.

Sincerely,
Rachel Rivera
