Lucas,
Corporations don't need clean water or fresh air.
So it's hardly shocking that as corporate polluters inject millions of gallons of toxin-laced water into the ground as part of the "fracking" process, the oil and gas industry injects millions of dollars into distorting our democracy.
One such corporate polluter is EQT — a multinational fracking corporation with a history of backing politicians who turn a blind eye to fracking's risks as well as propaganda groups that foment doubts about global warming.
Such corporate meddling crowds out the voices of real people while elevating corporate interests ahead of all else in the eyes of many state and federal lawmakers.
Hold EQT accountable. Demand that EQT keep its corporate profits out of the people's politics.
EQT, its PAC and its employees have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into state races, concentrating their efforts in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia, and have spent more than $155,000 at the federal level.
Fracking corporations already have been exempted from all major federal environmental laws — including the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts — and have carved out loopholes in the tax code that mean little to none of the profits they reap are reinvested into the communities they pollute.
But the fracking industry still has a full agenda, with top priorities including thwarting state level regulations and accessing even more areas — including publicly owned lands — for drilling and fracking infrastructure. For example, the fracking industry now is seeking approval for a pipeline to transport liquefied natural gas derived from the Delaware River Basin watershed.
Enough is enough!
Corporate polluters have no business distorting our democracy so that their profits are prioritized over the health of people and the planet.
Join the campaign calling on EQT to keep its corporate money OUT of our democracy.
Thanks for all you do,
Rick Claypool and Allison Fisher
