Dear Friends and Neighbors,
At the beginning of this year, I partnered with my colleagues to launch Progressive NYC, an effort to elect more progressives to open City Council seats in 2013. Since January, we've announced the endorsement of seven exciting candidates in districts across NYC, raised thousands of dollars for endorsed candidates, and helped elect our newest colleague, Council Member Donovan Richards, in a special election in Southeast Queens.
More than half of the City Council will be leaving office this year, giving us a unique opportunity to transform city politics. We live in the greatest city on Earth, but as progressives we also know that New York City often falls far short of our values. That's why this year, we're working with the Working Families Party, labor unions, community organizations, netroots activists, donors, and YOU to ensure that these open seats are filled with true progressives.
Let's make 2013 the year of a Progressive NYC.
This summer, we'll need your support for endorsed candidates as they gear up for the primary in September. Whether it's knocking on doors, making phone calls, or spreading the word to your neighbors, your help will be vital to building a more equitable, sustainable and affordable city in 2013.
We can't do it without your support. Will you sign up to join the movement for a Progressive NYC?
The City Council's Progressive Caucus has already led the way on some important legislation – a "living wage" law to make sure our tax dollars don't directly subsidize poverty wages, a resolution challenging Citizens United, and paid sick days for thousands of workers – but we must do much more to combat rising inequality and improve quality of life for millions of New Yorkers.
Together, we can grow the Progressive Caucus and make real change in New York -- join us today.
Thanks for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Danny Dromm
