It's pretty simple- If you drive a car, you have to buy insurance. So shouldn't we treat guns the same way we treat other dangerous products?
I certainly think so. That's why I introduced the Firearm Risk Protection Act of 2013 (HR 1369), a bill to require gun owners to purchase insurance, so that the rest of us don't have to keep footing the bill for the cost of gun violence. But the NRA and its allies at Fox News don't like that, and now they're taking aim at me and my efforts to keep us safe from gun violence. Just last week the NRA attempted to smear my efforts at passing real gun safety protections and Fox News fanned the flames by making my bill the top story on its website.
For too long the rule in Washington has been that the NRA gets what it wants. This year has to be different.

I've made enacting sensible gun safety legislation a top priority of mine for years. In addition to this bill, I've also introduced the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2013 (HR 452) to finally make gun trafficking a serious federal crime and to beef up penalties for straw purchases.
Right now, it's more important than ever to send the NRA a message and pass real, tough measures that will keep our communities safe.
