Lucas,
We're halfway through the 2013 Florida legislative session and bills are moving fast and furious that would
undermine our public schools, block health care for a million Florida working families, gut Florida's retirement system, and interfere in the private health decisions that should be made between a woman with her family, her doctor and her faith. And those are just a few of the worst bills moving as I write this.
Progress Florida is working overtime to defeat this all out assault on Florida's middle class by Gov. Scott and his legislative allies and we need your help. Can you contribute $15 a month, or whatever you can afford, right now and ensure we have the resources we need to keep fighting for Florida's middle class? It's easy, and you can cancel at any time.
Yes! I'll become a Progressive Partner by making a monthly contribution.
No, but I can make a one–time contribution.
Here's a few examples of how we're fighting back, and where we need your support:
- Providing rapid response communications and Internet organizing. In the last two weeks we've generated 1,155 letters to legislators in opposition to the "parent trigger" bill being pushed by Jeb Bush and out of state for-profit corporate school companies.
- Breaking the grip of big money on our political process by exposing corporate special interests. My editorial exposing the foothold that the shadowy corporate front group ALEC has on our legislature was recently published in the Sunday Orlando Sentinel.
- Building a permanent team of advocates, organizers, and volunteers, and the Awake The State movement. We helped organize 23 "Free The Vote, Awake The State" rallies across Florida on the first day of the legislative session demanding real election reform.
- Supporting progressive elected officials. We're letting legislators know before every key vote whether or not it qualifies them to receive a "Middle Class Champion" Award at the end of legislative session in recognition of those legislators who fight every day for middle class Florida families.
Our plan is ambitious, and it's already underway but we can't sustain the pressure without your help. Will you give us the ongoing resources we need for this critical work by contributing $15 per month? It's easy, and you can cancel at anytime.
Yes! I'll join the Progressive Partner team.
No, but I can make a one–time donation.
Thanks for all that you do,
Mark and the entire team at Progress Florida
