ANIMAL RACKETEERS

Good news from Tallahassee, but we need your help!

Legislation to strengthen Florida's animal cruelty law has been reported favorably out of several committees and is now ready for a vote by the full Florida House of Representatives. The bill may come up for a vote this week. This is the final step before going to the Governor's desk!

Please contact your state representative and urge him or her to vote in support of House Bill 851.

House Bill 851 would strengthen Florida's animal cruelty law by specifying that a person who commits multiple acts of cruelty against one animal or acts of cruelty against more than one animal may be charged with a separate offense for each act, and by making animal fighting punishable under Florida's anti-racketeering (RICO) law. The bill would also prohibit the artificial coloring and sale of baby chickens, ducklings and rabbits.

A quick phone call or email is all that is needed. For example:

"Dear Representative ______,
As your constituent, I am calling to ask you to please vote in support of House Bill 851. The bill would strengthen Florida's animal cruelty law."
