GOT AN ANECDOTE?

dromm_nyc_council_email_banner_wphoto_nyreblog_com_.jpgDear Friends and Neighbors,

I wanted to share a letter I recieved from my colleague Council Member Gale Brewer regarding today's election:

* * *

Dear Friend:

As you may know, there is a Primary Election (in some districts but not all) taking place in New York Thursday, September 13. As the Chair of the New York City Council Committee on Governmental Operations, I have held numerous hearings examining issues with the Board of Elections and the electoral process in New York.

As a result of those discussions, and in preparation for a hearing we will be holding in October, I know that the only way to get a true assessment of the voting experience is to go straight to the source: The voters. That is where you come in.

Please, share your anecdotal voting experiences with me on what went right or wrong at the polls on Thursday so that we can continue to work with the Board of Elections to improve the voting experience in New York City.

I encourage you to email your stories to gbrewer@council.nyc.gov , and/or share them on the New York City Council's Facebook page at:

http://www.facebook.com/NYCCouncil .

I also want to encourage all of you to take advantage of some fantastic new tools that the Board has launched.

- First, visit the Board's new website at:

www.vote.nyc.ny.us .

- On the site, you can check your registration status:

https://voterlookup.elections.state.ny.us /

- You can also instantly download your poll site location and a sample ballot, thanks to a new tool that I have been a strong proponent of for several years:

http://gis.nyc.gov/vote/ps/index.htm

- If you have a smartphone, you can even download the sample ballot/poll site locator app here:

http://vote.nyc.ny.us/html/voters/apps.shtml

I encourage all New Yorkers to get out to the polls on Thursday and exercise your right to vote. If you are not currently registered, make sure to do so in advance of the General Election in November. You can access more information on how to register here:

http://vote.nyc.ny.us/html/voters/voters.shtml .

Also, if you have a valid New York State Driver's License, you can register to vote online or change your voter information using the newly launched MyDMV website here:

http://www.dmv.ny.gov/mydmv.htm#motv .

Remember, poll sites are open from 6AM to 9PM, so don't forget to vote!

Sincerely,

Gale A. Brewer
