A SMALL FIRM SYMPOSIUM

nycbar1.gifDear Solo and Small Firm Practitioners,

This summer the Small Law Firm Center of the NYC Bar reached out to you with a request to complete a survey to help us better address your needs. An overwhelming number of you (nearly 700) have responded. Your feedback was extremely helpful, and some of your responses were both surprising and enlightening.

78% of those who responded are solo practitioners or work at firms with under 5 lawyers. 68% have been admitted to the Bar for over 12 years. Some of you are engaged in full-time small firm practice, while others practice law part-time, out of necessity, while hoping to get a full-time legal job, or to supplement retirement income. 87% are NYC Bar members, but 78% have never attended a Small Law Firm Symposium. Most of you rated the following 4 programs as those you would find most helpful in the upcoming Small Law Firm Symposium:

  • Expanding Your Client Base;
  • Growing Your Firm While Minimizing Overhead;
  • Cost-Effective Marketing ; and
  • Technology Tools for Your Practice

We appreciate your feedback and have taken it to heart in developing this year's Small Law Firm Symposium. While the Symposium will continue to be a prime event for those who need startup advice, this year we have added a special focus for existing solos and small firm practitioners. Separate workshops are devoted to each of the area of interest you listed in your survey responses. In addition, we will address taxes, compliance and billing practices, which are critical for existing law firms to succeed. Each workshop will last about 45 minutes, and you will walk out with helpful information, checklists and handouts.

We are also mindful of your cost concerns. The fee to attend the full-day Symposium is a mere $29 ($59 for non-members) if you register by October 8, 2012 and $39 ($79 for non-members) afterwards. It includes breakfast, lunch, access to up to 8 workshops and Exhibit Hall.

Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to network with about 250 similarly situated lawyers, brainstorm with senior small firm practitioners who are members of the Small Law Firms Committee and find out how to expand your business by joining Networking groups, Mentoring Circles and the Legal Referral Service at the NYC Bar.

Last year we had to close registration early due to space limitations. Don't miss the Symposium. Register now .

I look forward to seeing you on November 8th.
