LIU STATEMENT ON NYS LABOR DEPT. ANNOUNCEMENT OF CITY'S SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

************************************

Yesterday, New York City Comptroller John C. Liu issued the following statement on the announcement by the New York State Department of Labor that the City's unemployment rate fell 0.4% to 9.5% in September:

"My office is closely examining the data behind today's unemployment announcement. While the overall rate may be declining, for too many communities, especially communities of color, unemployment remains disproportionately high. That's exactly why we need to look at dynamic ideas and enact innovative tactics such as the Capital Acceleration Plan that we put into action yesterday, which will help spur jobs throughout the City and help ensure that economic recovery includes economic equality."
