MUZZLING SCIENTISTS?

Lucas,

"Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose." - Zora Neale Hurston

Public Citizen is known for the cutting-edge, in-depth research that is the foundation of the poking and prying we've been doing for over 40 years to advance consumer rights, health and safety, and democracy.

Sometimes our work complements that of researchers at federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Sometimes our work pushes policymakers and regulators to a higher standard.

Either way, we're alarmed about a trend toward censorship of government scientists.

Take action right now with our allies at the Union of Concerned Scientists to tell administrators of federal agencies, "Don't muzzle scientists!"

Union of Concerned Scientists investigations have found that some federal agencies are, in effect, censoring scientists.

Many government researchers fear retaliation if they publicly express concerns about their agency's work. And many report being discouraged from sharing their research with the public.

It's as simple as this: Censoring scientists puts people at risk.

Make sure that the dedicated, conscientious researchers at the agencies we all depend on -- to safeguard our food and medicine, our air and water, our economy and democracy -- can do their jobs.

Thank you for taking action.
