Dear Lucas,
If you are passionate about education, health care, ending obesity, and economic competitiveness and security...you may find that the issue of childhood hunger is more important to you than you realized. Childhood hunger is compromising these national goals; teachers tell us so. So do physicians. As do business leaders, economists -- and even our generals and admirals.
We know the answer to solving this crisis, and yet neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have shown sufficient inclination to take this issue head-on. Even more remarkably, there has been very little pressure on them to do so.
We want to know why.
Please help to make sure that our nation's leaders, especially those vying to be our next President, are addressing childhood hunger by answering the tough questions surrounding the issue. Click here to send Governor Romney and President Obama your question on hunger in America.
One thing is clear: while solving poverty is complex, feeding a child is not. Children aren't hungry because we lack food or because we lack nutrition programs. They are hungry because they lack access to such programs, even though there are funds set aside to support them. Again, we ask:
"Why?"
Please join me in asking the presidential candidates the tough questions they shouldn't avoid or ignore. If they continue to do so, the issue won't go away, and, sadly, innocent children will suffer for it.
Thank you for the work you are doing to make America a nation in which there is No Kid Hungry.
Sincerely,
Billy Shore
