Dear Friends,
We hope you are well and safe in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Luckily, the YWCA of Brooklyn’s building was not seriously damaged in the storm and we have since teamed up to support hurricane relief efforts for others less fortunate. In the past week the YWCA delivered close to 800 hot meals for residents without power in the Gowanus Houses,
Coney Island and displaced families in the Rockaways.
By utilizing the YWCA’s newly renovated industrial kitchens, staff, board, residents, community partners, elected officials and the organization Food Not Bombs volunteered to prepare delicious and nutritious vegetarian hot meals which were transported to the communities most impacted by the storm. The outpouring of assistance and resources from so many has been heartwarming and we want to thank all of you who have supported these efforts.
On Tuesday, November 20th the YWCA will again seek volunteers to prepare hot meals, this time for Thanksgiving, to be transported to displaced
families. We are soliciting volunteers to assist in meal preparation throughout the day, to transport hot meals in the early afternoon, and to make financial contributions. To volunteer, make a donation or for more information please contact Tonya Rapley,
TRapley@ywcabklyn.org or call
(718) 875-1190 ext 239.
To best support the hurricane relief efforts, the YWCA will postpone its 2012 annual gala to March 12th, 2013. Please save the date with more to come…
