Office of the President
Dear Lucas:
The State Bar has received a request from the New York State Board of Elections, asking that we help them in trying to recruit additional poll workers for Tuesday's Election. In addition to having to move and/or replace polling places throughout the City (tents with generators or consolidated facilities may be used), the Board is short poll workers due to the storm. A polling place cannot open if the poll workers are not available.
If you are interested, the only requirements to be a poll worker are that you be a permanent U.S. resident, a New York City resident, 18 years of age, and that you complete a short training. You should feel free to forward to family and friends. Poll workers will need to be at their assigned post starting at 5am on Tuesday until after the polls close at 9pm. In some locations, that could be up until 11pm.
They have set up trainings tomorrow. Each training is an hour and a half to two hours. Please let Matthew Maddox know which training session you wish to attend by 9pm tonight, although even if you can’t do that, if you show up for a training, you can still work. The trainings are at 9:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm, and 5:30pm. The trainings will be located at the Manhattan office for the Board of Elections at 450 West 33rd Street, 8th Floor.
If you are able, you should go to the website below, fill out an application and bring it with you to one of the trainings. If not, the Board will have applications available at the trainings. The website also contains more information. http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/html/workers/positions.shtml
Sincerely,
Seymour W. James,
President
